LABOURíS WORKING TO MAKE READING A
BETTER PLACE TO LIVE. The hard work
Before the Supreme Court was unified in 1873, there were two different kinds of lawyers who practised in different courts. Attorneys plied their trade in common law courts, while solicitors worked in courts of equity. But after unification, the term “attorney” was eliminated and the title of solicitor was used in all courts. What does a solicitor do? Generally speaking, the average solicitor deals with everyday legal issues outside of the courtroom. Although, solicitors do occasionally handle minor civil or criminal cases, they are rarely involved in the more serious ones. The professionals who handle major trials are called Barristers and they generally have more experience and more specialised training than solicitors. This does not, however, mean that solicitors do not belong to a noble and respected profession. In fact, solicitors who have superior qualifications and training, often called solicitor advocates, are now free to work at all levels of the courts. If you are considering the role of employment law solicitors we will briefly explain the educational requirements. To begin with, you must have a valid law degree from an accredited university. An aspiring solicitor must also become a student member of the Law Society and pass a one-year course in legal practices. Afterwards, he is typically expected to complete a two-year apprenticeship, which is essentially a clerkship. One of the great things about becoming a solicitor is that it offers ambitious individuals room for steady advancement. In fact, many solicitors have gone on to have successful careers as barristers and politicians. As you might imagine, to become a capable politician you must have an intimate understanding of the law, and soliciting offers aspiring politicians the flexibility to work at every level of the legal system.
